My mentor name is Misty Bastoni her role at the YWCA is as a volunteer coordinator. This is a
paid staff position and has been there for 1 year and 1 month. She’s passionate
about empowering victims of Domestic Violence and helping them to lead healthy,
violence-free lives. She’s also passionate about helping volunteers connect
with meaningful work and finding their passion in order to build a better
community. Her major in college was History, but has had a very diverse career.
She has worked in Banking, Retail Management, and Human Resource management and
before starting this job she was a real estate agent and property manager for
the last 10 years. Also during that time she ran an after school and summer
dance and drama program in local elementary, middle and high schools.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VISUAL MESSAGE - MY FINAL PROJECT
My goal for completing my internship with the organization YWCA was to create a visual book the assimilates domestic violence and the causes of beating and the way they people get treated can be harmful. YWCA is a place the is founded by a group of local women who volunteer their own homes as an underground network of safe houses until a permanent domestic violence intersection and treatment residence is establish for those who are victims of domestic violence.
ARTS AND CRADTS CLASS AT A SPECIAL PRESCHOOL
In addition to completing my 30 hours at the YWCA preschool, I got the opportunity to work with 30 students leading an arts and craft class the involved imagination, creativity, dedication and passion. I planned art projects for the students related to the month for example for November the theme was thanksgiving and December the theme was christmas. The art projects would be different for every student some would take longer than others, I would introduce a new project every day when kids would be done I gave them the choices to start a new project or the same one, free drawing, or working using their imaginations with sounds and things they saw around them giving them freedom and no limiting their imagination.
The YWCA has a special preschool for kids the are 3 to 5 years old who have experience domestic violence at home, this special preschool helps students heal from what they were expose to at home.
